Buddhism: Geography and Citizenship

These links to Buddhism sites have been carefully selected and were considered relevant and suitable for school use at the time of checking. Clicking on them will take you to other web sites over which we have no control. If you have any doubts or concerns please check what is at the other end before using them in lessons.   • * Buddhanet
    BuddhaNet is a not-for-profit organisation affiliated with the Buddha Dharma Education Association. It contains info about Zen, Buddha,Buddhist contact groups around the world, and also features 'readings of the day'. Language is fine for most 11-14 yr olds, although some technical terms are used.

    * Buddhist Chants
    A very useful page containing streaming audio chants and audio files you can download (lawfully!). There are also loads of other pages covering meditation, photographs, teachings, life in monasteries etc. This is an excellent site to visit and should be of interest to almost all students.

    * Dalailama.com
    This is the web site of the office of his holiness the Dalai Lama. It contains a biography on the current Dalai Lama and information on the Dalai Lamas since 1391. It features his teachings, messages, speeches, a photo gallery and webcasts of his teachings (in tibetan).

    * Chocolate Deities
    Ever wanted to eat a buddha? Well this site sells hand crafted chocolate bars and figures of various deities. You can buy a buddha in dark, white, milk and gold chocolate. Of course you don't have to eat them but apparently they are very yummy.

    * Glossary of Zen and Buddhist Terms
    A glossary of all the words you'll need to know when studying Zen and Buddhism.

    * Dharma
    Information on the Dharma, the sayings of the Buddha and the universal law of nature.

    * Tricycle
    Tricycle: The Buddhist Review is an internationally distributed, mainstream quarterly dedicated to exploring the full range of Buddhist activity and its impact on Western Life. The site has an archive of Buddhist related news, a forum to ask any questions you may have and lots of general information.

    * The Buddhist Society
    A UK site containing a number of useful resources including excellent pages designed for school use. Also pages covering different schools of Buddhism, the Buddha, Buddhist teachings and common questions. Good site for general information and ideas.

    * Prayer Flags
    An introduction to prayer flags, a short history and several photographs. Useful for project work.

    * Working with the Invisible
    Information, links and images covering prayer flags, prayer wheels, shrines and stupa. Useful for background information, project work and as a resource for web quests and 'open' research.
