    * Flooding in the West USA
    A combination of news items and photographs of recent flooding. This site provides some good background material for students, especially as a starting point for project work.

    * Floods and Flash Floods
    A fact sheet about limiting the damage caused by flooding. This is produced by FEMA ( Federal Emergency Management Agency ) and explains what a householder can do before, during and after a flood to reduce the damage caused both to their property and to themselves.

    * National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP)
    This explains how the National Flood Insurance Program works in the USA. It is probably of very little use to people outside the USA, but for those who live there, it is a convenient source of data regarding the official flood insurance system.

    Another photograph site concentrating on USA flooding in 1997. There are also flood maps, graphics showing how and why a levee can break, and how to repair one once it has broken.

    The latest information about tropical storms and where they are located. The site includes tips on surviving and recovering from storms, current weather forecasts and archive material for past Hurricanes. A good site for school use.

    * USA Flooding in 1997
    The Berkeley Digital Library photo gallery containing numerous news pictures of flooding. All the pictures are shown as thumbnail images, making it easy to select the ones you want to see. This is a very good visual resource for all schools ages.
