This is a photograph of a the edge of a salt marsh. The picture is a cross-section where the tide has cut away some of the mud. The lower part of the image is nothing but thick grey/brown mud, like a bank of very wet clay. Above this is a low layer of vegetation. The plants look grey /brown and not very green at all. This is typical salt marsh vegetation; very bushy and low growing, surviving in tough conditions.
